Saturday was a trip to Masada and the Dead Sea. Masada was the last bastion of Jewish freedom fighters against the Romans; its fall signaled the violent destruction of the kingdom of Judea at the end of the Second Temple period. It was built by Herod, King of Judea and was a palatial fortress. The story of its demise was very sad. It is located on the eastern fringe of the Judean Desert near the shore of the Dead Sea. We went to the fortress ruins via cable car. It was amazing!
Second and third levels
After leaving Masada we headed for lunch and then on to Kalia Beach on the Dead Sea. OK, no mean comments about my floating pictures. I took them with my waterproof camera and I'm going to say the camera adds 20, no 30 pounds. Ha!
